LANGKAWI – Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is still waiting for his compound notice from police after violating the standard operating procedures in Penang last month.
“I will pay the compound once I get the notice,” he told the press during the opening of a vaccination centre at the Langkawi International Convention Centre today.
Penang police yesterday received instructions to issue Sanusi a compound notice over his test drive fiasco in Autocity Juru during the movement control order (MCO) on June 6.
He was caught on camera by a passer-by who uploaded the video of him allegedly going for a test drive.
Vehicle dealers and exhibition centres are not allowed to operate during MCO.
An investigation was carried out under Section 269 of the Penal Code, and Regulation 17(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within Local Infectious Areas) Regulations 2021.
However, Sanusi’s political secretary, Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamuddin, said in a Facebook post after the incident that Sanusi did not intend to go for a test drive but made a stop to get food while travelling to Kuala Lumpur on an urgent matter.
He was accompanied by a driver and police officer.
The eatery they bought food from was close to a Ford showroom. Sanusi went over to take a look at the Ford Ranger a salesman was positioning.
The Kedah PAS commissioner denied driving the vehicle and did not realise he was being recorded.
“Maybe because I am the controversial menteri besar, some people think that when they record a leader who allegedly violated the SOPs, he will be a hero in this country.
“If I get a compound, I will pay it. And for the person who recorded it, I will give her a new gadget after this to make it easier for her to record things well,” he said when he was questioned over the incident last month.
Sanusi is the first menteri besar to be charged with an offence linked to lockdown rules. – The Vibes, July 17, 2021
