KUALA LUMPUR – The co-founder of Misi Solidariti has been detained by police over what is understood to be a Twitter post.
Today, the young woman with three individuals who were involved in pushing for anti-government demonstrations on July 31, arrived at Dang Wangi police headquarters for questioning.
The three individuals were Tharma Pillai, Afiq Adib and Muhammad Alshatri.
Their lawyers, Beatrice Chin, Nathalie Kee and Rajsurian Pillai were present during questioning.
Speaking to the press, Rajsurian said police were investigating two separate matters.
“First they are investigating a matter concerning a demonstration that’s planned on July 31.
“Second the police are investigating a matter which they say falls under the Sedition Act, with regards to a posting.”
He added that police raided her residence, and have confiscated her devices as well as obtained her social media logins.
Undi18 co-founder Tharma Pillai told the press that the planned demonstration is a manifestation of the people’s disappointment with the government.
He said this disappointment is no different from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s disappointment towards the government which was made public today in a statement.
“Today the Agong expressed his disappointment with the government. For us, we feel the rakyat is also feeling disappointed.”
He added that this investigation would not hinder the demonstration planned for July 31, and hoped authorities would refrain from further intimidation.
When asked if the police warned them to refrain from holding the demonstration, Tharma answered in the negative saying the police were professional.
The three activists, Tharma, Afiq, and Alshatri are being investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for making statements conducive to public mischief, and Section 233(1) of the Communications and Multimedia Act for sharing offensive content.
Meanwhile, police are investigating the co-founder of Misi Solidariti under Section 4 of the Sedition Act and Section 233(1) of the Communications and Multimedia Act. – The Vibes, July 29, 2021
