KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today recorded 20,889 Covid-19 cases, beating the previous high of 20,596 set yesterday. 

Just 13 of these were imported, with the rest confirmed as locally transmitted.

Selangor saw the most number of infections again with 8,792, Kuala Lumpur had 2,483, Kedah (1,371) Sabah (1,291), Johor (1,275), Negri Sembilan (986), Kelantan (938).

Penang notched up 752 new Covid-19 cases in the past day, Sarawak had 652, Perak (624), Pahang (610), Melaka (491), Terengganu (460).

Putrajaya saw 122 additions to its Covid-19 tally in the last 24 hours, while Labuan and Perlis logged 9 each.

The Health Ministry reported 16,394 recoveries, which leaves active cases currently at 221,396.

There were also 160 fresh fatalities, bringing the Covid-19 death toll in the coutry to 10,179.

Meanwhile, 1,096 Covid-19 patients are currently receiving treatment at intensive care units nationwide, with 545 requiring ventilator support. – The Vibes, August 6, 2021
