YAN – The body of the sixth individual reported missing in the Gunung Jerai flood incident last week was found in Titi Hayun here about 1.30pm today.

Yan district police chief Shahnaz Akhtar said the remains of Ridwan Poniman, 61, were discovered by rescuers about 1km from where he is believed to have been swept away.

“The body of the last victim was found under a pile of logs,” Shahnaz told Bernama at the search-and-rescue centre at the site.

The body has been sent to Yan Hospital for a post-mortem.

Shahnaz said 400 personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force and police were involved in today’s search efforts.

With the discovery, he said, the search has been called off.

About 800 houses here and another 200 in Kuala Muda were hit by the disaster that struck on Wednesday. – Bernama, August 23, 2021
