MIRI – The Sarawak government is set to reward its native power lifter Bonnie Bunyau Gustin following his gold medal victory at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
Chief Minister Datuk Abang Johari Openg today said the state is proud of Bonnie and the rest of the Paralympians.
“Bonnie will be duly rewarded for winning the Paralympic gold in Tokyo.
“He has achieved tremendous things for the country and state and he will get his due reward.
“We have not decided on the forms of reward to give to him, but for sure he will get the rewards he deserves,” he told reporters following a function in Mukah today.
The Sarawakian, who was born in Serian, also broke the Paralympics record of 227kg previously set by Iraq’s Rasool Mohsin in Rio 2016, when he lifted 228kg in his third attempt for gold.
Bonnie had previously won numerous international competitions prior to this feat.
Saying that Bonnie and other Paralympians are models for the rakyat, Johari expressed confidence that there will be more achievements to come from them. – The Vibes, August 28, 2021
