KUALA LUMPUR – Calls for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to step down as prime minister, following his failed bid to declare an emergency, are among the top items to be discussed at Barisan Nasional’s special meeting today, said Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
“That’s what we are discussing,” the BN treasurer-general told reporters upon his arrival at meeting venue Putra World Trade Centre here this afternoon.
He was asked whether Muhyiddin should quit after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong yesterday rejected the prime minister’s push for emergency rule.
“I want to hear BN’s position first,” added the foreign minister.
On whether Umno will remain with Muhyiddin’s Perikatan Nasional government, he said: “I don’t know. We have to wait for Umno’s meeting first.”
The party’s Supreme Council is slated to meet tonight.
The BN talks, which began at 12.30pm, are chaired by Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Backbenchers kicked off the discussions, with BN ministers filing in about 2.45pm after attending a special cabinet meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya.
Besides Hishammuddin, other cabinet members spotted entering PWTC are Tan Sri Annuar Musa, Khairy Jamaluddin, Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique and Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.
Earlier, Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin said the meeting is to allows BN lawmakers and leaders to clear the air over matters arising from Muhyiddin’s failed bid to impose emergency rule.
