KUALA LUMPUR – A couple selling cannabis cookies and cakes via Instagram were arrested in separate raids under Op Storm in the Klang Valley on Tuesday.
Kuala Lumpur Narcotics Crime Investigation Department chief Sahar Abd Latif yesterday said officers carried out surveillance on the duo, both locals, for a month before swooping in.
The first suspect, a 34-year-old man, was arrested in Jalan Pudu with 25 jars of cookies and 53 cakes laced with marijuana.
“The suspect led police to a location in Jalan Kemajuan, Petaling Jaya, where his 28-year-old girlfriend was arrested,” said Sahar.
Police seized another 131 jars of cookies and 41 cakes, 31l of liquid cannabis, eight slabs of cannabis weighing 7.82kg, portable mini ovens, a mixer and other baking utensils.
A BMW X3 and cash totalling RM11,790 were also confiscated.
“All the seized items are estimated to be worth RM491,089,” said Sahar.
He said the couple have allegedly been selling the “desserts” – RM50 for the cakes, and RM100 for the cookies – for five months, marketing the items to close friends via Instagram.
The male suspect tested positive for cannabis, while woman’s drug test returned negative.
The pair are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and face the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
The man has been remanded for six days, and the woman for one week, starting Wednesday, the day after their arrest. – The Vibes, September 11, 2021
