KUALA LUMPUR – The government would not last for more than 30 days if it was not for the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on transformation and political stability signed by the opposition and federal government, said Khalid Abdul Samad (Shah Alam-PH).
In debating the royal address in Parliament yesterday, Khalid said that he was merely repeating words from an Umno MP, whom he did not name.
He said that the MoU should not be viewed as opposition support to the government, but as assistance for the current health and economic crises.
The Transformation and Political Stability MoU covers six key points: Covid-19 plan enforcement, administrative transformation, parliamentary reforms, judiciary institution independence, Malaysia Agreement 1963, and the formation of a steering committee.
“The MoU was signed because the governments under the Pagoh and Bera MPs were clueless.
“That is why we included the strategies to combat the health and economic crises in the document,” Khalid said.
The Amanah lawmaker accused the government of adopting a political culture based on betrayal, noting that there may be a possibility that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob himself could be toppled.
“There are 114 MPs, and that is their own business.
“If they fight among themselves as they did during former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s tenure, that is their own fate,” Khalid added.
He called the current administration “weak”, with a small majority, and emphasised the need for a confidence vote.
“They are scared to hold a confidence vote. Why? Because they are aware they sit with a gang of thieves,” Khalid added. – The Vibes, September 22, 2021
