KPJ Healthcare Berhad and Singapore’s SingHealth have agreed to work together on healthcare research, training and clinical innovation under a new strategic partnership.
The two healthcare groups signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will cover areas including specialist training, medical simulation, digital health, artificial intelligence and knowledge exchange.
The collaboration will see both parties explore opportunities such as fellowships, specialist attachments, academic exchanges, joint research projects and the sharing of expertise in managing complex medical cases.
KPJ Healthcare said the partnership would support the development of its KPJ Health System, which includes its network of hospitals and healthcare facilities, by strengthening links between clinical practice, education and research.
KPJ Health System Governing Council chairman and Johor Corporation president and chief executive Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim said closer cooperation between healthcare institutions was needed to address challenges facing the sector.
“Healthcare’s biggest challenges cannot be solved by any one institution alone,” he said at the MoU signing ceremony.
He added that the partnership would allow both organisations to learn from each other, develop future healthcare talent and support improvements in patient care.
SingHealth Group Director of International Collaborations Prof London Lucien Ooi said the agreement would provide a framework for cooperation in healthcare innovation, research, education and simulation.
The MoU exchange ceremony was held at Johor Specialist Hospital, with KPJ Healthcare represented by Chief Medical Director Professor Dato’ Dr Hanafiah Harunarashid and SingHealth represented by Prof Ooi.
SingHealth is Singapore’s largest healthcare cluster, comprising public healthcare institutions and academic partners, while KPJ Healthcare operates a network of specialist hospitals across Malaysia.
