KUALA LUMPUR – The number of Covid-19 Assessment Centres (CACs) will change depending on the number of patients in each locality, said Khairy Jamaluddin (Rembau-BN).
The health minister said to date, the ministry has opened 209 CACs nationwide, with at least one centre set up in each district since January.
“Each district has at least one CAC, depending on the number of patients in that district.
“The function of a CAC is to assess and identify patients who are suitable to undergo isolation at home, or need to be referred to Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres and hospitals.
“So far, the CACs have managed to achieve this objective,” he said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.
The Umno lawmaker said following the success of virtual CACs in monitoring Categories 1 and 2 patients in the Greater Klang Valley, efforts to establish such centres in other states are under way.
Khairy added that his ministry is working towards reducing the number of brought-in-dead (BID) cases by empowering community leaders.
“Community leaders already know that there are Covid-19 patients who have symptoms who can be brought to CACs to be assessed as soon as possible.
“We have also increased the effectiveness of virtual CACs to ensure those who report positive tests and are experiencing symptoms are contacted via robocalls, or calls from district health office volunteers.
“This is so that patients with symptoms can be taken to CACs or quarantine centres to reduce BID cases.” – The Vibes, September 22, 2021
