MIRI – Police fired shots into the air in a bid to stop a fight in a housing estate here yesterday evening.

Miri police chief Hakemal Hawari said the incident happened at the Piasau Jaya residential estate at 5.30pm yesterday and video clips of the incident are widely shared online.

“The police team had to fire shots into the air to stop a group of people in a ruckus at a house,” he said in a statement.

Before the ruckus, a lawyer was allegedly on his way home on a motorcycle when he was purportedly assaulted.

“The brother of the lawyer and a group of people went to confront those who were allegedly involved in the assault.

“There was a fight, and the police were alerted to the incident. There was property damage and physical injuries after the ruckus.

Those involved have been remanded today, he said, adding that the public should not disseminate the videos and photos of the incident. – The Vibes, September 24, 2021
