GEORGE TOWN – Penang hopes that the Budget 2021, expected to be tabled on November 6 in Dewan Rakyat, will focus on fighting the Covid-19 pandemic while helping the economy to recover.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said: “It is important for us to focus on the healthcare sector and ensuring all needs are met to stem the spread of Covid-19.”

He added many businesses, particularly tourism, are currently affected and it is impacting people from all walks of life, especially those who lost their jobs.

“I hope the Budget can create more job opportunities next year and provide more assistance to affected parties.”

The Budget, which will be tabled by the Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, is expected to focus on efforts to revitalise the economy as well as restore investor and consumer confidence.

Meanwhile, Chow assures that he has been receiving information from the National Security Council on the current Covid-19 surge, saying it will be shared to the public.

“Previously, we attained a green state status for more than 100 consecutive days , and I am confident we can do it again.”
