BALIK PULAU – An unemployed man was arrested with 4.6kg of heroin worth RM61,573 after he was suspected of being involved in drug trafficking activities in Penang.
Southwest district police chief Kamarul Rizal Jenal said the 36-year-old suspect was arrested by police at the roadside of Jalan Tun Hussein Onn, Seberang Prai Tengah, last Friday about 4pm.
Kamarul said that the suspect was in possession of 907g of heroin when arrested.
Following the arrest, he said, the suspect took the police to a parking lot of a condominium in Golden Triangle, which led to the discovery of 3.5kg of heroin stashed in a car.
“Police intel found that the drug distribution activity had only been active for the past five months and targets the local market.
“The total amount of drugs seized can be used by a total of 22,975 drug addicts,” he told a press conference at the Southwest police headquarters today.
Kamarul said checks also revealed that the suspect had four records related to criminal and drug cases, and a urine test also found the suspect positive for methamphetamine.
He said the suspect was remanded for seven days beginning last Saturday, and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. – The Vibes, September 28, 2021
