MELAKA – The state has its chief minister – Umno’s Lendu assemblyman Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali, who was sworn in by the Melaka governor at 1am today.

Sulaiman defended his seat comfortably with a 3,104 majority, fending off Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Abdullah Mahadi and Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Mohamad Asri Ibrahim, who only garnered 1,382 and 1,155 votes respectively

In a Facebook post, MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong said he was among the invited guests to witness Sulaiman’s swearing-in ceremony as Melaka 13th chief minister.

He added that among those who attended were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Barisan Nasional (BN) chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, his deputy Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, and the party’s adviser Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

By 11.15pm, the Election Commission declared that BN had won the state polls with 21 of the 28 seats contested. PH won five seats, while PN managed to garner two seats.

Umno garnered a resounding victory under the BN banner, winning 18 of the 20 seats it contested, while MCA and MIC took two seats and one seat, respectively.

On the flip side, PH only managed to win a total of five seats, a far cry from its 2018 victory of 15 seats. PN this time also won two seats. – The Vibes, November 21, 2021
