KUALA LUMPUR – Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa has denied trivialising the issue of rampant sexual harassment in the entertainment industry, following backlash to a remark he made during a recent interview.
Referring to an article carried by Mingguan Malaysia this morning, Annuar said the report by the Utusan Malaysia weekly – which seemingly saw him suggest the focus be shifted to other aspects of the industry – was taken out of context.
Instead, he said the interview with the reporter was meant to highlight other matters related to his portfolio.
“I received a WhatsApp (message) from a Utusan reporter (wanting) to interview me. He suggested the topic of sexual harassment in the entertainment industry, but I suggested the interview discuss one of my current focuses, which is industry development to help artistes,” he said on Facebook.
“Unfortunately, what came out was the reporter’s interpretation, which did not reflect my stance.”
Despite that, Annuar said he will not be taking action against the media outlet or the reporter.
“It’s okay… I am focusing on my work,” he told The Vibes in a brief WhatsApp message.
“There is no need (to take action) as it’s just a misunderstanding. We will close this chapter and focus on our actions, not polemics.” – The Vibes, November 21, 2021
