KUCHING – Sarawak’s opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan (PH) will be contesting all 82 seats in the state election on December 18.

State DAP chief and PH chairman Chong Chieng Jen said this during a live press conference from the party headquarters here earlier today.

“All three members in the PH coalition will be contesting in all 82 seats with PKR pitching for 47 seats, DAP in 26 seats, and Amanah in nine seats.

“This was agreed in a meeting earlier this year,” said the Kota Sentosa incumbent, who is also Stampin MP.

Chong told reporters that all parties in the coalition will be flying their own flags and using their respective party logos for the polls.

“The candidates will also be chosen by their own parties.

“It will be a tough fight under the shadow of the Covid-19 pandemic and the stringent public health guidelines, as well as the standard operating procedures that will be put in place,” said Chong, in describing the upcoming polls as an uphill battle for the coalition.

Asked if he will be defending his Kota Sentosa seat, Chong declined to comment, but said DAP will see many new faces in the election and that some incumbents will not be contesting.

“I hope this election will see Sarawakians putting out a strong message through the ballot box to Gabungan Parti Sarawak as an expression of their dissatisfaction and frustration on many matters pertaining to the governance of the state,” he added. – The Vibes, November 25, 2021
