SHAH ALAM – Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has been reappointed as state National Security Council (NSC) chairman after the recent floods that swept the state.

Speaking at a press conference, he said he will resume the post tomorrow after a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob earlier this morning.

“This morning, the prime minister chaired a special national security meeting and said that the federal NSC will manage the disaster. I’ve been contacted by the NSC to chair the Selangor NSC to coordinate this effort.

“In November, the NSC chairman position was surrendered to a federal-level minister. So, (when the floods happened on December 18) I could not call and mobilise the police and the army on that date.”

He said if he were still heading the state’s security council, he would have contacted the army to mobilise the necessary assets for search and rescue missions.

However, he added that no one, including the NSC, should be blamed over the disaster that saw more than 30,000 individuals and 4,000 households displaced.

He said everyone now should focus their efforts on SAR (search and rescue) operations as well as post-flood recovery efforts to pull the state back up on its feet.

“We are coordinating with the prime minister up till today, that’s why we can see that the rescue efforts are improving,” said Amirudin. – The Vibes, December 21, 2021
