MIRI – A nearly 5m-long crocodile wandered into the Jakar Bazaar in Sarikei district at 10am yesterday, giving locals a fright.
Two teams from the Sarikei Fire and Rescue Department and the Sarikei Civil Defence Unit were deployed to the scene after getting calls from residents.
Sarikei Civil Defence Unit head Mirwan Mazri said the agency was alerted to the incident by members of the public after receiving an emergency call at 9.45am.

“The crocodile was seen near a shoplot by passers-by and had wandered into the bazaar from the nearby river.
“Together with the Bomba team, we managed to shoo the crocodile away from the shops using water jets and long sticks, and guide it back into the river.”
Sarikei is about 90km inland from Sibu town. Crocodiles are not an uncommon sight in Sarawak. – The Vibes, December 27, 2021
