KUALA LUMPUR – The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department has confirmed receiving reports of flash floods from residents of Kajang this evening.

However, department director Norazam Khamis said the floodwaters have receded.

“We received reports on the flooding in Kajang but then the waters have receded,” he told reporters briefly in a WhatsApp group.

Based on a statement by the department’s Operation Movement Centre (PGO), it received two reports on floods in Kajang – one from Glen Court Bandar Sg Long Apartment and another from Taman Lembah Mewah.

“We received a report from Glen Court that the pool water overflowed. When we arrived, it had receded completely. There were no victims.

“Meanwhile, in Taman Lembah Mewah, Kajang, the flash floods were caused by a downpour and clogged drains.

“We received a report that the floodwaters were two-ft deep, and we found it was receding. There were no victims,” it said.

With flood-battered Kajang experiencing further downpours, netizens and local residents have voiced concerns about another round of massive flooding.

Earlier, netizens took to social media to alert the public about the situation in the district, with some sharing videos of several roads in the area being inundated.

Twitter user @neejiy shared a 12-second video of Jalan Kajang-Semenyih that was inundated in the afternoon.

According to the Public Infobanjir website, which tracks floods, waters in Sg Langat in Pekan Kajang exceeded the warning level.

However, as of 7pm, it is on a downward trend.

Meanwhile, the waters of the same river near Taman West Country Kajang also exceeded the warning level and is on an upward trend for now. – The Vibes, December 27, 2021
