KUALA LUMPUR – Bukit Aman has denied that a man who fell from a condominium in Cheras was killed by a police inspector as was virally reported on social media.
In a statement today, Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Abdul Jalil Hassan said that preliminary investigations found that the man had committed suicide.
“Preliminary investigations have found no evidence of a crime and that the victim was believed to have committed suicide by jumping off the 20th floor of the condominium.
“Eyewitness accounts said that the victim was living alone. His wife had left him on December 7 because of domestic problems that caused stress and pressure to the victim.
“Further investigation on the CCTV recording found that the victim had entered the elevator alone and exited it on the 20th floor.
“A can of alcoholic beverage and a face mask was also found on that level. The items have been sent to the Chemical Department for further investigations,” said Jalil.
The police had received a call from the public regarding the death on December 30, 2021, at around 8.05pm.
A team was sent to investigate, and his death was later confirmed by a medical officer from UKM’s Hospital Canselor Tuanku Mukhriz, Cheras, on scene.
Jalil also advised the public to avoid making speculations that could trigger civil unrest and avoid sharing fake news. – The Vibes, January 1, 2022
