TAWAU – Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin is urging the federal government to construct a road linking Kalabakan to Serudung as a precursor to connect Sabah to the bordering Indonesian province of Kalimantan.
The state works minister said that the road, which will be 39km long, must be constructed immediately, as it will be a “game changer” to the state’s economy.
“I will bring this matter to the attention of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to ensure that it will be developed as soon as possible.
“It will benefit the people of Tawau and boost the local economy, including the tourism sector. It will indirectly bring Sabah out of poverty and setbacks,” he said in a statement today.
In a separate development, Bung said that construction works at the Cinta Air dam here, which had been delayed due to the movement control order, will resume.
He assured that the construction works will be done according to schedule after he received a briefing from the contractor involved when visiting the dam site today.
“I ask the people of Tawau who are facing water supply problems to remain patient because the government is trying its best for the people,” he said.
He said that the government has also been using water tanker trucks to supply water to affected areas as a short-term solution.
“The issue of insufficient water tanker trucks will also be solved by the appointment of private contractors (with water tankers) to ensure the water supply to affected areas is sufficient and smooth,” he added. – The Vibes, January 9, 2022
