KUALA LUMPUR – A seven-day remand order has been issued for a former enforcement director of a government agency over an alleged multimillion-ringgit corruption case.

The suspect was accused of soliciting and accepting bribes on a monthly basis from a contractor company between July 2019 and March 2021 to help get a tender for a cleaning work contract worth RM3.1 million.

The remand order until January 30 was issued by magistrate Nadia Othman at the Kuala Lumpur magistrates’ court after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) made the application this morning.

According to sources, the suspect, a man in his 40s, was arrested at the Sabah MACC office at 2pm yesterday after giving a statement.

The accused is believed to have solicited and received bribes to secure the tender for the privatisation of solid waste collection and public cleansing management in the northern region.
