KUALA LUMPUR – In the aftermath of last month’s massive floods and yesterday’s flash floods in Taman Sri Muda, Kota Kemuning assemblyman Ganabatirau Veraman is appealing for residents to work together to clear the debris.
While authorities continue their clean-up work in the Section 25 housing area, Ganabatirau has called for residents to practice good community hygiene and be mindful of indiscriminate littering.
During his observation at the disaster-struck area last evening, the Selangor exco member found new garbage had clogged up the drainage outlets.
“We saw some old debris from the floods in December but there was also new garbage and boxes in the drains. How did that happen?” he told The Vibes.
He advised the locals to emulate the spirit of kampung folk to come together and play a part.
“The residents must have a sense of belonging to the neighbourhood.
“I will be organising a gotong-royong programme on February 6 with the residents, assemblyman office, volunteers and non-governmental organisations. I hope the residents will play a role.”
In addition, he said he had contacted Shah Alam mayor Datuk Zamani Ahmad Mansor to seek a more aggressive effort in clean-up works, as well as KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd to increase its manpower.
“The clean-up works are ongoing, and I was told that it is being done according to phases. KDEB and MBSA are still around to carry out the cleaning ops.”
Heavy rain yesterday afternoon resulted in another flash flood in Taman Sri Muda.
