KUALA LUMPUR – Emulating former US president Barack Obama and Senator Bernie Sanders, Muda believes grassroots crowdfunding is the best way forward for the party with regards to elections.

Taking to Twitter, Muda co-founder Lim Wei Jiet added that it is also the best and transparent choice for political parties in general.

Lim explained that political parties need funds to contest in elections.

“These funds include the deposit with the Election Commission (EC), which is RM5,000 per assemblyman, and the cost to print flags as well as other materials.

“This is the reality, what more for a new party like Muda which does not have a war chest like other bigger parties,” Lim tweeted.

The alternative to grassroots crowdfunding, Lim said, would be receiving massive donations from the wealthy elites, which comes with its own set of problems for Muda.

Lim contends it has the risk of causing Muda to be tied or subservient to their wealthy donors.

“The pro-rakyat policies or redistribution of wealth can’t be achieved.

“At the end of the day, no one is forced to donate, everything is voluntary.

“If you’re not able to contribute financially, you can become a volunteer for Muda,” Lim said.

Today, Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman took to Twitter seeking donations and volunteers for Muda ahead of the Johor polls.

Syed Saddiq assured that all expenses paid through the donations will be detailed and made public. – The Vibes, January 29, 2022
