KOTA KINABALU – Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau today questioned if Malaysia is heading towards bankruptcy, after the Perikatan Nasional government proposed the biggest Budget in the country’s history.
“Where are you going to get the money to fund it? 26.5% borrowings and use of government’s assets! Is that more than 55% of GDP? We better be warned! Are we headed for bankruptcy?” tweeted the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation president.
Mentioning Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in another tweet, he said Budget 2021’s agenda is not apparent, and that there is no clarity on how it is going to revive the economy.
“How do you revive tourism? Energy? Manufacturing? Agriculture? Mining? And the financial sectors?”
He said the Small and Medium Enterprise Association of Sabah believes the Budget is not clear on how it will rejuvenate the SME sector.
He posted a graphic that shows SMEs’ role in ensuring cash flow in the state’s various economic sectors.
Madius also questioned the purpose of reviving the Special Affairs Department (Jasa).
“How about this kind of priority? What exactly is the agenda of your proposed Budget 2021? Why are you reviving Jasa? Is that crucial to revive the economy or put the Covid-19 pandemic under control?”
The resurrection of Jasa, which was shut down by Pakatan Harapan when the pact took federal power in 2018, has been a controversial topic.
