JOHOR BARU – Relying on Johor Wanita PKR chief Napsiah Khamis Maharan’s extensive work in the Puteri Wangsa constituency, the party is demanding Muda to back off from running for the seat.

In an open letter issued by PKR deputy information chief Manivanan Gowin, he took the opportunity to explain that his party’s grassroots are not satisfied with Muda’s takeover of the constituency.

During initial discussions for seat distributions in Johor, he said PKR proposed Napsiah as a candidate for the constituency.

“However, on the principles of friendship, PKR gave the seat to Amanah. After which Amanah and DAP’s leadership gave the seat to Muda.”

Due to the extensive and aggressive work done by Napsiah over the past year, as well as the coordination of party machinery in the area, Manivanan proposed it would be best if Muda surrendered the constituency back to PKR.

“If Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman is in this fight honestly and sincerely, he should consider giving back the seat to Napsiah, who has done aggressive work in Puteri Wangsa over the past year.

“This seat is winnable for the opposition, and the candidate should be one that worked in the constituency.”

Don’t be ‘spoilt’, go beyond ‘safe’ seats: Johor PKR Youth deputy chief chides Muda

In another press statement by Johor PKR Youth deputy chief Faezuddin Puad, he said the public will not be able to measure Muda’s capabilities if it stands in safe seats.

He added that it will be better if Muda is given the chance to translate its popularity in east coast constituencies such as Penawar, Tg Surat, Tenggaroh, Sedili or Johor Lama, where winning may not be a guarantee.

“Then we can see how far Muda can last in the political world and subsequently measure the ability of their machinery. From there, we can determine if Johor really knows Muda.

“This whole time we hear them loudly on social media, but we are not sure if they really are popular in the real world.”

He added that Muda should exemplify the values expected from its name, and be brave and confident in facing new challenges.

“It’s a shame that Muda has not changed like a spoilt kid, who is fearful and shies away from new challenges, hoping only for easy wins.

“Nothing has begun yet, and we have rolled out the red carpet for them,” said Faezuddin.

Why did Amanah hand a winnable seat to a party with no grassroots? Napsiah asks

Napsiah said PKR had done extensive work in the constituency to repair Pakatan Harapan (PH)’s image among voters.

As party coordinator for the area, she was slated to be PKR’s candidate for the state constituency.

“I took the responsibility to restore PH and PKR’s image in the constituency.

“We did so much work to build trust for PKR, because the Puteri Wangsa seat was won with (Mazlan using) the party logo.”

She said Amanah requested to contest in Puteri Wangsa.

This is despite, according to Napsiah, no work being done by DAP or Amanah in the area.

“Although it was difficult to let go of the seat, we agreed, because we are coalition members with Amanah. But what happened instead was Amanah gave the seat to Muda.

“What happened to Amanah? Why did it give away the winnable seats when Muda is a new party with no grassroots?”

When asked about the anger PKR members have towards Muda, she said they are unsure how loyal the newly formed youth party would be.

Muda yet to confirm decision on PKR three-seat offer

According to a statement by Johor PKR chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, a total of three seats were offered to Muda.

Muda last night said PKR has yet to finalise the offer to make way for it to contest in another three Johor state seats.

It added that although it respected PKR’s right to defend its existing seats, the party has yet to confirm its decision on the three seats requested by Muda during a series of negotiations with PH component parties.

PKR’s announcement means that the newly registered Muda will be contesting nine out of 56 seats in Johor if it accepts the offer.

Earlier in a joint statement by DAP, Amanah and Muda said the young party would run for six seats.

Other than Puteri Wangsa, the seats allocated for Muda are Tenang, Bukit Kepong, Parit Raja, Machap, and Bukit Permai. – The Vibes, February 10, 2022
