KOTA KINABALU – Informal talks to form Borneo Alliance (Perikatan Borneo) have been held between Warisan and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) to face the upcoming 15th general election.
This was revealed by PSB presidential council member See Chee How to local Sarawak media yesterday. The information was also posted on Selangau MP Baru Bian’s Facebook page.
See said informal meetings have been held no less than twice between Bian and Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
“We are truly hopeful we can do it. Whether we could be a third force or whether playing the kingmaker,” he said in an interview.
See said Warisan would lead the new alliance in Sabah while PSB will do the same in Sarawak, adding that other parties can join the fold and win seats in Sabah and Sarawak.
He said with Warisan expanding to Peninsular Malaysia and receiving an encouraging response there, Borneo Alliance can be an alternative for voters there.
“From my observation in Peninsular Malaysia, there is no alliance which has the majority to form the federal government now.
“So they need the Sarawak and Sabah support, looking at the various coalitions that we have now.
“For PSB, our leaders, we are seeing that actually this is the best time if we can push to have the Sarawak coalition to be the top force so that we can hopefully have a prime minister from East Malaysia, either from Sabah or Sarawak,” he was quoted as saying in the Borneo Post.
He said that in Peninsular Malaysia, the people are already fed up with the politics there and are looking at other alternatives.
Asked whether the alliance will also take in national-based parties with local charters in Sabah and Sarawak, he said it will be for the alliance to decide later when it is formalised.
