KUALA LUMPUR – The only way for the conflict in Ukraine to end is for the invading Russian forces to leave the country – dead or alive.
Ukrainian Ambassador to Malaysia Olexander Nechytaylo did not mince his words as he articulated his countrymen’s determination to defend their nation against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s bloody onslaught that has so far taken upwards of 200 Ukrainian lives.
Speaking to The Vibes, Nechytaylo said embattled Ukrainians will defend themselves against the violent incursion from Russia.
“It (end to war) can only be achieved when the last invader, dead or alive, leaves the sovereign territory of Ukraine.
“We want to continue building our future without any interference,” stressed the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Malaysia.
He said the Ukrainian defence will also include exposing war crimes perpetrated by the invaders since the invasion on Wednesday.
Kyiv, Nechytaylo said, had activated its highest-level security and communication protocol, the “Red” protocol level, in light of the Russian invasion into its sovereign territory.
Under the “Red” protocol, every Ukrainian diplomat worldwide has been working around the clock tirelessly to help disseminate the real information on the current state of their nation.
“All Ukrainian diplomats around the globe are working 24/7 to protect our country and to help our brave military by telling the world the truth about the Russian war crimes, engaging the UN (United Nations) and other avenues to isolate the aggressor and securing international assistance to Ukraine,” he said.
The ambassador also slammed Russia’s act of aggression and brought up how Putin’s decision has now not only destroyed homes and infrastructure but also cost the lives of the innocent.
He pointed out that the Kremlin has waged an “unprecedented unprovoked invasion on Ukraine”.
Furthermore, he stressed that this has exposed the “ugly nature” of the current regime in Moscow where hundreds, including children, have been killed as a result of indiscriminate attacks on the residential homes and civilian infrastructure over the past two days.
He also took the opportunity to call out Putin and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov for lying as they had constantly assured that they would not attack Ukraine.
Following Russia’s attack on Ukraine, the latter has officially broken off Kyiv’s diplomatic relations with Moscow yesterday, marking it the first rupture in ties since Russia and Ukraine became independent countries after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the decision in a video message, hours after Putin launched an all-out offensive that included an air assault and ground invasions along the northern and southern frontiers of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, in a show of solidarity, the British High Commission in Malaysia tweeted their stance in standing together with Ukraine in the face of the invasion.
