JOHOR BARU – The Barisan Nasional (BN) state government will not stop promoting the opening of borders between Malaysia and Singapore.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad said he hoped both governments would sit down and discuss how best they could open up the borders.

“We have already presented the daily commuting arrangement as well as a complete and comprehensive standard operating procedures that we have discussed with the federal government (of which) they have adopted.

"... we are now moving to the endemic phase and if it (the border) cannot be opened in total, perhaps we can look at the sectors,” he told reporters after launching the BN manifesto here today.

Hasni, who is also Johor BN chairman, said among the sectors that can be looked at include services and construction sectors as they involve many Malaysians.

“Maybe, first, we can look at the services sector or construction sector, as many among the 300,000 Malaysians who cross on a daily basis (before the Movement Control Order), were involved in the services, construction and manufacturing sectors … Both governments can consider opening these sectors progressively,” he said.

Hasni said this when commenting on whether the opening of the Malaysia and Singapore border was part of the manifesto.
