KUALA LUMPUR – The country may have seen three prime ministers since the 2018 general election, but in the eyes of an Umno lawmaker, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (Bera-BN) is the best among them.
Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub (Machang-BN) cited his party vice-president’s decision to allocate equal funding to opposition MPs, as a result of the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pakatan Harapan (PH).
“In this opportunity, I would like to express my deepest congratulations to Bera,” he said when debating the royal address in the Dewan Rakyat today.
“After the 14th general election, we have had three prime ministers. To me, compared to the last two, I consider Bera as the best prime minister. This is clear to us.
“Although the opposition has agreed under the MoU to support the government until July, but because of his kindness and concern, Bera has treated them (opposition) well by giving them allocation, not just because of the MoU.”
Ismail Sabri became prime minister on August 21 last year after several Umno lawmakers withdrew their support for his predecessor, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (Pagoh-Bersatu).
Muhyiddin had only served as the country’s eighth prime minister for 17 months from March 1, 2020.
He took over from Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (Langkawi-Pejuang), who originally led Pakatan Harapan to a shocking victory in the 2018 general election.
Following his appointment as the country’s ninth prime minister, Ismail Sabri had swiftly moved to ensure political stability by signing an MoU with PH, with the opposition coalition promising support in return for several reforms.
Jazlan proposed that even when the MoU expires in July, the government should continue providing equal allocation to the opposition.
“We must treat every citizen equally.
