GEORGE TOWN – “DAP entered the Johor election knowing that it would be a challenge,” DAP vice-chairman Chow Kon Yeow told the press today.
He said that the party knew that the political landscape had changed and therefore set a target of winning six to ten seats.
“We knew that there were four seats that would be a challenge to win,” he said after the launch of the Adventist Nuclear Medicine Centre here.
In the polls yesterday, DAP lost four out of the 14 seats it contested, namely Yong Peng, Paloh, Bekok and Pekan Nanas.
However, Chow said that DAP, as a component party of Pakatan Harapan feels that they have reached their target even though they did not win all the constituencies contested.
Furthermore, he assured that this is just the beginning of the fight, and the party will continue their political work in Johor and also other states as they ready themselves for the coming general election (GE).
As the Penang DAP chairman, Chow said that the party should always be ever ready for a state election as it can happen at any time, especially the ones that have not experienced state elections after the recent GE.
A total of 239 candidates across 15 political parties, including independent candidates contested in the Johor polls, with seven three-cornered fights, 35 four-cornered fights, eight five-cornered fights, four six-cornered fights, and two seven-cornered fights.
Barisan Nasional cruised to yet another state election victory, winning a 40-seat supermajority out of the 56 seats contested.
A total of 1,426,573 people, making up 54.92% of registered voters went to the ballots yesterday. – The Vibes, March 13, 2022
