KUALA LUMPUR – Domestic and international travellers wanting to enter Sabah will be subjected to a fresh set of guidelines that will come into effect when the nation’s borders reopen on April 1.

According to the state government, local and foreign travellers arriving via air, sea, and land transportation will be required to have a negative RT-PCR Covid-19 test result that is taken two days prior to their departure.

The travellers must also download, register, and activate the MySejahtera app, and complete its Traveller Declaration form by clicking the “Traveller” icon, as well as provide their vaccination status.

Non-Malaysians will also be required to purchase Covid-19 insurance prior to entering the state.

Upon arrival, travellers are required to undergo the RTK-Antigen test that is to be carried out by trained healthcare personnel prior to immigration clearance at all points of entry (PoE) in the state.

“Personal/pre-purchased RTK saliva test is NOT allowed,” the guidelines, issued by state Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun, read.

Fully vaccinated individuals will not be required to undergo any quarantine period, while those who are partially vaccinated or unvaccinated will be placed under quarantine for five days.

The fully vaccinated travellers who tested positive on arrival will need to be quarantined for seven days, while the partially vaccinated and unvaccinated will undergo a quarantine period of 10 days.

The infected who are under Categories 1 and 2 can serve their quarantine period at home, a designated quarantine hotel, or Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre, while those in Categories 3 to 5 will be treated in a hospital.

The state government also noted that children aged 6 and below are exempted from RT-PCR tests prior to departure. Instead, they will be taking the RTK-Antigen test by a trained healthcare professional upon arrival.

It also stated that transit passengers arriving via KLIA, KLIA and other PoEs can only enter Sabah upon taking an RTK-Antigen test with trained healthcare personnel.

Other children and adolescents aged 17 and below will be exempted from quarantine, regardless of vaccination status, unless they test positive upon arrival in the state.

As for vaccination statuses, all adult recipients of the Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccine would be considered fully vaccinated if they have received their booster shots.

Those aged above 60, and who are recipients of the Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Covaxin, Covishield, Novavax, and Sputnik V vaccines, would not be considered fully vaccinated unless they have received their booster shots.

The senior citizens aged 60 and above are also not considered fully vaccinated if they had only received one dose of the CanSino, Janssen (Johnson & Johnson), and Sputnik light vaccines. – The Vibes, March 29, 2022
