KUALA LUMPUR – Traders who are approved to begin their business operations at 2pm throughout Ramadan are warned to not abet with Muslims skipping their fast or face possible punishment such as corpse bathing.

“We have already given traders the permission to open for business, so please respect this holy month. Both parties must not take advantage of this opportunity.

“If they are caught, we will consider bathing them like how we bathe corpses,” Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali told reporters after an event in Taman Bandar Baru, Masjid Tanah in Melaka.

He was quoted as saying by Bernama, that these traders should use the opportunity to be the eyes and ears of the authorities in monitoring individuals who skip fasting or notoriously known as the “black plastic” gang.

Continuous monitoring, the Lendu assemblyman said, will be carried out by the Melaka Islamic Religious Department with strict enforcement on restaurants or food vendors that allow Muslims to eat at their premises.

Meanwhile, he also reminded Ramadan bazaar traders not to increase prices despite facing a hike in raw material prices.

“Sell at a reasonable price. Try to lower the prices and of course, many will come and buy.”

Yesterday, Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad announced that Muslims in Malaysia will begin the Ramadan fast tomorrow.

Syed Danial said the date was set by the order of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah after being consented to by the rulers. – The Vibes, April 2, 2022
