KUALA LUMPUR – The Health Ministry said the Klang Valley and Negri Sembilan today recorded higher cases of Covid-19 compared to worst-hit Sabah.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the combined areas were showing a worrying trend, with 453 cases in total.
Negri Sembilan alone, he said, saw 240 cases mostly in Seremban. However, Sabah and Sarawak were showing signs of becoming more stable in the past four days compared to the figures two weeks ago.
“This was a concern for the Health Ministry in the Klang Valley and Negri Sembilan whereby we are looking into how we can conduct public health activities,” he said in his daily press conference.
“This is due to the high concentration of inhabitants in the area and the movement of residents between areas. We have also observed the activities of crossing districts and state borders.”
He said the rising number of infections in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya led to the ministry implementing the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) that began on October 14, as most districts were declared red zones.
“This is a challenge we face and we must continue to take proactive and preemptive measures in the affected areas.”
He said the ministry had also identified three localities that were suspected of having high cases, where the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) would be implemented.
As for Sabah and Sarawak, Dr Noor Hisham said there were districts in Sabah which had turned into green zones and that he hoped this would continue in the next one or two weeks.
“We have contained the situation in Sabah and what's important is that we have placed Kuching under CMCO, which is important to protect the surrounding districts which were still green zones. Labuan is also reaching stability if we see the health (authorities’) action in identifying positive cases there.” – The Vibes, November 12, 2020
