KOTA KINABALU – The bodies of the two siblings believed to have been swept away by strong river current while still inside the four-wheel vehicle their father was driving two days ago, have been found.
Four-year-old Amber Lim was found around 2.15pm today, some 19 kilometres away while her older brother, Jason Lim, six, was found at 3.25pm some 21 kilometres away from the site where they were last seen.
Their bodies were found by members of the public and rescuers involved in the search and rescue party.
The two siblings had gone missing after the vehicle their father was driving was swept away while crossing a bridge in Kampung Dangulad in Keningau around midnight on November 10.
A storm that night had caused the Sungai Liawan to overflow right, swallowing the four-wheel drive they were in, into the river. The father, Lim Wan Shing, escaped but the two children remained trapped inside the vehicle.
The fire and rescue personnel arrived soon after receiving a distress call but had to halt their operations around 1.33am due to the dangerous river conditions.
The search continued the next day with the search party expanding its search within a 10km radius from the location they were last seen.
A sniffer dog was brought in today to assist in the search while the search party expanded its search radius to 25km using the Surface Rescue and Surface Searching approach.
Over 34 fire and rescue department personnel, police, members of the public and family members have been part of the search party. The search party was called off around 3pm today. To see the earlier story click here –The Vibes, November 12, 2020
