KUALA LUMPUR – Dutch diver Nathan Renze Chesters, who went missing while diving off Pulau Tokong Sanggol, is confirmed dead, the Johor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency said today.

The death of the 14-year-old teenager was confirmed by his British father Adrian Peter Chesters, 46.

The father had said that his son died as “he was too weak and could not survive”, the MMEA said in a statement.

However, MMEA director Nurul Hizam Zakaria said they have yet to find the victim’s body, which they believe has drifted into neighbouring Indonesia’s waters.

“The MMEA called off its search and rescue operation at 1.30pm today,” Nurul Hizam said, adding that they have reached out to their Indonesian counterparts to assist in searching for the victim’s body.

Earlier today, fishermen rescued the elder Chesters, a British national, and Frenchwoman Alexia Molina, 18. They were found a day after the rescue of 35-year-old Norwegian dive instructor Kristine Grodem by a maritime search team.

On Thursday, police detained the skipper of the boat used by the divers after he tested positive for drugs. – The Vibes, April 9, 2022
