KOTA KINABALU – An enterprising 11-year-old girl has made enough profit from her ketupat-weaving business to finally afford a tablet for her online classes.
Nurhazwa Ayshah, a Year 5 student here, started her business three years ago and made RM600 during the 2020 lockdown. As per her mother’s instructions, she saved up her earnings.
Over the course of last year, her business boomed, and she made a few thousand ringgit and used a portion of it to buy a tablet.
“This year, I am aiming to buy a laptop,” she said.
“I do most of the business promotion via Facebook. Aunties and neighbours also helped to promote my services.”
Nurhazwa learnt to weave ketupat from her father Iswandey Suel, 42, who works as a tradesman.
Her mother, housewife Syllie Suryantie John, said Nurhazwa is not only an excellent student but has always had an entrepreneurial streak.
She added that Nurhazwa first started selling snacks and stationery items when she was in Year 1.
