KUALA LUMPUR – DAP’s embattled Pasir Bedamar assemblyman Terence Naidu will be charged in court today under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after he was detained with 36 others at a karaoke joint in January near Prai, Penang.
According to his tweets today, he said he will fight the charge, especially after he had lodged two police reports claiming that his drinks were tampered with.
It is learnt that Naidu will be charged in the Bukit Mertajam magistrates’ court.
“Most would have known, I had issued a media statement on the circumstances that led to my arrest before Chinese New Year. I have lodged two police reports since, of which stating that a witness had observed that my drinks were tampered with right after my release.”
He also said that he is taking leave from all DAP-related activities but will continue to provide community services that he has been tasked to do.
“I had offered to be suspended from my party to safeguard it from slander and damage, and will stand proudly with the party anytime, but not right now until my name is cleared.”
On January 19, the DAP legal bureau revealed that Naidu tested negative for his second urine test conducted at a private clinic in Penang.
The test was conducted at an O2 clinic after police alleged that the Perak DAP leader had tested positive for four types of narcotics after they had conducted a raid at a karaoke joint near a mall in Prai.
After he was released by police on January 14, Naidu went to the private clinic the next day to undergo another urine test. The results, which came back today, were negative for any form of drugs, DAP legal bureau chairman Ramkarpal Singh Deo said in a statement.
“Naidu went to the private clinic after he was unhappy with the results of the first test as police claimed that he had tested positive. Police refused to allow for a second urine test to be conducted on him,” Ramkarpal said.
Ramkarpal said that Naidu has now lodged a follow-up police report at the Bukit Mertajam district police headquarters following the results of the second urine test, seeking for police to expedite their investigation into the matter. – The Vibes, April 20, 2022
