GEORGE TOWN – Newly minted youth-based party Muda has admitted that there are discussions on cooperation with political parties besides Pakatan Harapan (PH) for the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).
Its vice-president Teo Lee Ken said Muda often discussed at the party’s internal level to take into account every opportunity available, but no final decision has been made.
“So far I cannot answer, because it can only be decided by the president. But we have always supported the unification of the opposition to face Barisan Nasional (BN).
“Even at the Muda level, we have discussions, because we want to explore every opportunity available,” he said when met after the MoU signing ceremony between Muda and the ActNow application at the Penang Digital Library today.
He was commenting on a statement by Amanah deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who urged the PH leadership to be open to holding discussions with all opposition outfits ahead of GE15.
Teo said he believed that Salahuddin’s statement was personal because it did not have the support of Amanah’s ally DAP.
“I see that Salahuddin’s statement does not represent PH and only his personal opinion.
“Anyway, so far there is no decision on whether to work with all opposition parties, or not.”
Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday said Bersatu is ready to cooperate with any political party to ensure straight fights against BN in the upcoming GE15.
Without naming any party, Muhyiddin said the party was currently in the initial stage of discussions to offer a win-win formula to achieve that objective.
PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said last Friday that the coalition was prepared to negotiate and discuss with any political party about cooperation in the upcoming GE15.
However, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said that the issue of cooperation between PH and Perikatan Nasional, the alliance that Bersatu is in, should not arise as PN is still a part of the government bloc. – The Vibes, April 25, 2022
