KUALA LUMPUR – Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) sees Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin’s decision to join the political outfit as a further indication that the party is being well-received by people from all walks of life.
PBM secretary-general Nor Hizwan Ahmad said this in a statement after officially receiving an application by the Ampang MP to become a member of the fledgling party today.
According to Nor Hizwan, the application will undergo due process, including deliberation by the party’s supreme council, before a decision on approval is made.
“On behalf of PBM, we are very proud and excited with this development, since Zuraida is a dedicated, competent MP with an outstanding service record as a leader who is close to the rakyat,” Nor Hizwan said.
“(Her decision to join) strengthens our confidence that the struggles we carry continue to get the support of various levels of the community and increases our enthusiasm in building the momentum to continue working hard for Bangsa Malaysia.”
Nor Hizwan’s statement comes just hours after PBM senior vice-president I Steven Choong told The Vibes that the party has yet to receive a membership application from Zuraida.
Choong had said PBM will not be deliberating on her role in the party until her membership has been confirmed.
Earlier this morning, Zuraida announced that she is joining PBM and will relinquish her position as plantation industries and commodities minister. However, she maintained her support for the current government.
The former PKR leader said her decision to quit Bersatu for PBM comes after months of deliberation.
She added that she believes in the struggles championed by the new party, its core principles of multiracialism, women and youth empowerment, and its focus on economic development, as well as education and the advancement of science and technology. – The Vibes, May 26, 2022
