KUALA LUMPUR – Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has hit back at Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, alleging the latter is power-crazy and not PAS.
Hadi, who is PAS president, said it is Zahid and Umno who are incessantly power-hungry in seeking snap polls at a time when the people are facing a multitude of economic woes.
“PAS is not power crazy. Usually, people who want it (general election) in a hurry are power crazy.
“People who are against it (general election) are those who prefer to deliberate. We are conscious of the people who are facing so many economic issues, not to mention dealing with Covid-19.”
This follows after Zahid had chided opposition parties and Umno critics who objected to calling for a general election as they supposedly feared the people’s mandate.
When asked on the possibility of PAS losing in the general election, Hadi said in a press conference after delivering his weekly lecture in Rusila, Terengganu that the party was no stranger to losses.
“PAS has lost before, it’s no trouble to us, but the problem is the people who have never lost before,” he said, chiding Umno, which lost in the 2018 general election.
He added that PAS rejects the “big tent” approach touted by several personalities in the opposition bloc.
“We are still holding to the principle of uniting the ummah, that is our priority.”
The Marang MP said post-mortem findings from the Sabah, Melaka and Johor state elections showed that there is growing voter sentiment for PAS and the Perikatan Nasional coalition, but stressed that they need more time to consolidate support. – The Vibes, June 10, 2022
