GEORGE TOWN – The Penang Front Party (PFP) announced that it will be contesting in at least 10 seats, including two in Kedah, for the upcoming 15th general election.
Its president, Datuk Patrick Ooi, said PFP was targeting two seats in Alor Setar and Kulim in Kedah, apart from two parliamentary seats in Penang.
“In Kedah, we are still discussing whether to contest at the state assembly or Parliament level.
“But in Penang, we expect to contest six state assembly seats and two parliamentary seats. We are still looking for candidates who are truly qualified and suitable,” he said when met by reporters today.
Ooi said PFP also hoped to “replace” MCA and restore the “glory days of Penang”, which they claimed saw its heyday during the days the state was led by Tun Lim Chong Eu.
He stressed Barisan Nasional (BN), of which MCA is one of the key partners, can trust his party as they continued going down to ground even throughout the movement control order (MCO) to render aid.
“Compared to MCA, some of their leaders do not know how to speak English and Malay. How do they want to represent the people?” he said.
However, Ooi added that PFP was also ready to cooperate with other parties, including Perikatan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan.
Patrick said that the minor party, established in 2016, currently has almost 5,000 members around the northern region.
In the last election, PFP fielded candidates in 13 seats in Penang, including one parliamentary seat.
