GEORGE TOWN – Outspoken Jelutong MP R.S.N. Rayer was involved in a car mishap along the highway near Batang Kali in Selangor early today.

The vehicle he was in, a Toyota Alphard, apparently rammed into a side railing of the road at high speed.

A state DAP committee member and lawyer, Rayer is involved in several high-profile legal cases, including ones where he is a co-counsel for DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng in his corruption trial.

It is learnt that Rayer was rushed to a nearby hospital as a precaution.

A DAP official said that he was shaken over the incident, but is conscious.

In April, 2014, Rayer’s political mentor and former DAP chairman Karpal Singh died after a pre-dawn road accident along the North-South Highway south of Ipoh.

Meanwhile, lawyer S. Raveentharan, who is a friend of Rayer, said that he spoke to the latter’s wife, telling him that the DAP leader is presently recuperating and was undergoing checks at Sungai Buloh Hospital for abrasions to his left hand.

“He is conscious and alert to what is going on. The law fraternity in Penang wishes him a speedy recovery and hope he can return to Penang soon.

“I was told he may be coming back home either today or tomorrow,” he told The Vibes, when contacted.

DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng posted a message on social media indicating that Rayer is on the mend, citing that he has spoken to his fellow MP, who had mentioned that he wants to be back firing on all cylinders.

Rayer had served as the Seri Delima assemblyman for two-terms prior to becoming the Jelutong MP when he replaced pioneer microblogger Jeff Ooi.
