KOTA KINABALU – The Sabah Health Department has initiated a probe following claims of staff negligence which led to the stillbirth death of an infant during labour at one of its hospitals, here.
State Health Director Datuk Dr Rose Nani Mudin said health authorities are looking into the causes of the baby’s death at Likas Women and Children’s Hospital on June 19.
“A detailed and transparent investigation will be carried out by the department.
“The condition of the infant’s mother is now stable. She is undergoing further treatment including counselling from the hospital.
“The Health Department is taking this matter seriously and will be carrying out an investigation based on all feedback in order to further improve our services,” she said in a statement today.
Dr Rose’s response comes following a social media post believed to be made by a family member, alleging negligence on the part of the hospital staff on Monday.
The Facebook post has since gone viral.
The individual identified as Vivian Viv claimed that the incident would not have happened if her sister had been given due attention by the staff.
“Our sister was overdue, but you just gave her medication and asked her to endure the contraction, saying it is normal for the first child.
“She endured the contraction for 14 hours.
“When our sister could no longer bear the pain, only then did you give her medicine and let her sleep after taking her medicines.
“Our sister endured the pain again and only then the hospital noted the baby’s heartbeat had become weak,” the Facebook post read.– The Vibes, June 22, 2022
