IPOH – Four people were killed in an accident involving seven vehicles at KM277.1 of the southbound North-South Highway here yesterday.

A Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said its personnel from Meru Raya were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 3.02pm yesterday.

He said the crash involved a trailer and six cars.

“One man and three women were trapped in the wreckage. Firemen extricated all the victims and they were pronounced dead by medical personnel,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Plustrafik, in a Twitter post, said the accident made that stretch impassable and caused traffic to come to a standstill for 7km.

The affected lanes were reopened later and traffic flow was back to normal at 5pm.

The Fire and Rescue Department has identified the victims as police retiree Rahim Ramli, 60; a woman believed to be his wife, Siti Petimah Omar, 59; and his daughters Nor Nadirah, 28, and Nor Hamizah, 27.

Their bodies were taken from the Forensic Department of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here at about 11.30pm last night for burial in Permatang Pasir in Penang.

About 10 family members of the victims were at the mortuary to claim the bodies after autopsies were completed.

Funeral prayers were conducted at the compound of the Forensic Department before the bodies were taken by van to Permatang Pasir. – Bernama, July 14, 2022
