KUALA LUMPUR – Electricity supply has been restored in many of the locations affected by the power blackout today, except for those in the Klang Valley.

Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) said in a statement that electricity was restored within 20 to 40 minutes in places outside of the Klang Valley.

It added that the power blackout started at 12.39pm today and among the affected areas are Petaling Jaya, Cheras and Bangi in the Klang Valley; Bayan Lepas and Seberang Jaya in Penang; as well as Johor’s Panchor and Bandar Indera Mahkota.

The company also said the disruption involved 2.2GW (gigawatts), which is 10% of the demand in Peninsular Malaysia.

TNB’s technical team is working on identifying the cause of the outages and restoring power supply.

Earlier, The Vibes reported that the Klang Valley’s light rail transit service was affected by the outage, especially its Ampang/Sri Petaling Line.

Malaysia Airports Holding Bhd reported that operations at Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s main terminal have been disrupted due to the power interruption.

Also, a number of netizens have taken to social media to report disruptions with delivery services such as Grab.

They said delivery orders and bookings made during the outage have been cancelled.

Traffic lights in the city are down due to the outage, said Kuala Lumpur City Hall, adding that it has mobilised its traffic wardens to the affected areas. – The Vibes, July 27, 2022
