KUALA LUMPUR – Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan has alluded that the 15th general election (GE15) will be held within the next couple of months, and urged civil servants to vote wisely.
“It (GE15) might not be too far away… maybe a month or two. When it is time, vote B for ‘Bijaksana’,” he was quoted by Sinar Harian at the ministry’s Outstanding Service Award Ceremony in Putrajaya today.
He said history has shown that when “wrong decisions” are made when voting, civil servants become the victims.
“The best is to provide continuous political stability for our children,” the MIC deputy president said.
Saravanan told a press conference after the event that MIC candidates will be determined by party president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran.
“We will still be contesting for nine parliamentary seats and 18 state seats as in previous elections,” he said, adding it will also be up to Barisan Nasional (BN) to decide on whether there will be a shuffling of seats.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob hinted that GE15 will be called soon, calling on BN members to close ranks as it is crucial for everyone in the coalition to unite and end infighting.
Earlier, Ismail Sabri had said he will abide by Umno’s decision against extending the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Putrajaya and opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan.
It was reported on April 14 that the Umno Supreme Council had decided the MoU would not be extended beyond July 31.
Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, however, had responded by saying that the MoU remains in effect beyond July 31, explaining that only the clause prohibiting the dissolution of the Dewan Rakyat before the date – allowing GE15 to be held – will automatically expire. – The Vibes, August 2, 2022
