MIRI  – A trailer lorry transporting an excavator burst into flames after coming into contact with overhead power lines near the Tanjung Manis industrial zone in Sibu, killing two men instantly.

According to a statement by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, the incident happened along a road at a locality called Semalau in Tanjung Manis at about 9.45am, today.

“The fire station at Tanjung Manis deployed its unit to the scene after receiving an alert that a trailer, transporting an excavator, had tangled with the overhead power cables in Tanjung Manis.

“While the fire and rescue personnel managed to douse the flames from the trailer, the remains of two men were found inside the vehicle.”

As the names and backgrounds of the victims have yet to be ascertained, the remains of the deceased have since been handed over to the police.

It is learnt that the vehicle got entangled with the power cable due to the extended arm of the excavator it was transporting.

Following the incident, the fire and rescue station has since contacted Sarawak Energy Bhd to come to the scene to check on the power line’s safety aspects. – The Vibes, August, 19, 2022
