KUANTAN – The body of a 14-year-old Orang Asli girl, believed to have been murdered, was found lying among bushes near her house in Bukit Ibam, Rompin on Sunday.

Rompin police chief Mohd Azahari Mukhtar said it is understood that the victim, who did not attend school, was found by her cousin, sprawled with her head and hands bleeding before a police report was lodged at 2.45pm on the same day.

“The investigation revealed the victim had left her house on Saturday night and failed to return home. Her father lodged a missing person report,” he said in a statement today.

The body was sent to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital for a post-mortem, he said.

Following the discovery of the body, Azahari said three Orang Asli men were detained at 9.40pm yesterday to assist in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Azahari urged those with information on the incident to contact 09-414-5999 or investigating officer Abdul Khaliq Mustopa at 019-999-9769.

Meanwhile, Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said the suspects aged between 22 and 38, are being remanded until Aug 29.

“The suspects and the victim come from the same settlement area and know each other,” he told a press conference after the handing over of duty by Pahang deputy police chief Datuk Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri to Datuk Abdul Razak Mohd Yosuff at the Pahang Police Contingent Headquarters here.

Yusri has been promoted as Perak police chief, while Razak is the former commander of the 69 Commando.

Ramli said the suspects had no criminal records and tested negative for drugs. – Bernama, August 23, 2022
