KUALA LUMPUR – Under a heavily guarded convoy, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak arrived at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex today, shortly after 8.30am for the 1MDB trial.

This is his first public appearance since beginning his 12-year jail sentence on Tuesday for the SRC International case.

It is also understood that Najib is currently in the courtroom’s witness room, awaiting the start of proceedings which will be chaired by judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah.

While usually accompanied by busloads of supporters, the atmosphere at the court complex is relatively subdued today, with only lawyers, media, and a handful of members of the public present.

Earlier, a small group of people purported to be supporters of the Pekan MP were prevented from gathering outside the fourth floor courtroom.

Najib is facing four charges of using his position to obtain bribes totaling RM2.3 billion from 1MDB funds and 21 charges of money laundering involving the same amount. – The Vibes, August 25, 2022
